Unwanted Features

New versions of the popular web browsers, such as Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer, always include new and improved features. Typically, along with these features comes increased web page download times due to having to download additional data to take advantage of the new features. While the new features may provide an enhanced web browsing experience, a user may not wish to use certain features depending on their current needs. For example, when using a slow modem, fancy graphics and sound take a long time to download when all the user needs is the text of the web page. Most browsers allow the downloading of images to be turned on and off, but many other features cannot be disabled. The following sections will discuss some commonly found features that may not be wanted and cannot be easily disabled.
